The coffee is ground in-house, coated with alcohol in several stages, and then combined with sugar, glucose, caramel, and other ingredients to create the final product. Steinhäger may only be distilled and produced in Steinhagen according to EU law. For Original Schlichte with 38% vol., only selected juniper berries are fermented and distilled. In a separate distillation process, fine grain distillate is created. Juniper extract and fine grain distillate are then carefully distilled again in large stills. This Steinhäger distillate is reduced to drinking strength with water from its own well, filtered, and stored until bottling.
